Summer Term - second half

Week 1

Monday 1st June to Friday 5th June 2020

Mary Seacole.

This week, we are looking at a hero that was alive long before the NHS existed. Her name is Mary Seacole. She is famous for persevering in her caring for injured and poorly soldiers in the Crimean War over 150 years ago. That means she carried on helping even when she was told she wasn't allowed to.

Read the factfile and answer the questions by clicking on her picture above - it's a link to the PowerPoint. There are more worksheets here.

Do a little more research by clicking on the picture below.

Finished all of that? Would you like a creative challenge?

Re-create a scene from Mary's story using a cereal box or other cardboard box. Here are some examples of 'box scenes' that other people have done.

We would love to see them when you are done. Email us at Y3@greenhill.leeds.sch.uk

We will upload the pictures to the usual place: News and Special Mentions.

Maths

We have setup some fractions work for you to have a go at this week. Click the link below t access it and don't forget to logon to TTRockstars for some time table practise and Sumdog for some extra fraction work if you need it.

Summer Term

Week 5

Monday 18th May to Friday 22nd May 2020

Imaginary places.

Have a look at these maps drawn of imaginary places. Some are islands, some are road maps.

This week, we would like you to draw your own imaginary place map. Here are some ideas:

  • You could drawn an island and put towns and cities on it. Draw rivers flowing down from the mountains to the sea.
  • You could draw a road map for an imaginary city. Think about what things your city would have in it; a park, a swimming pool, shops, a library, schools, a doctor, a chemist etc.
  • Have fun naming roads, islands, bridges, schools and so on. For instance, your schools could be called Nose Pick Hill Primary school - or Too-tall High School.
  • Can you add a 'key' to show us what different symbols mean.
  • Try to add on as much detail as possible. Maybe you could add extra detail on a different day?

When you have finished, send your colourful creations to us so we can add them to the Year 3 web pages.

Spellings and Reading

Keep using the other sections of our Year 3 web pages for spellings and reading. Some children have said they've found them very helpful! The Reading Comprehension page has been updated with more resources!

Maths

Have a go at some Multiplying and Dividing Activities this week. Click in the link below to find videos and activities to help you on your way with this. Log onto Sumdog for a special multiplication and division task.

Week 4

Monday 11th May to Friday 15th May 2020.

Hello again everyone. This week, we want you to design an advert for one of the following things:

  • Your junk model creation (monster, animal, dinosaur etc) from last week's work.
  • An item you have at home that you would like to sell.
  • Your input/output invention from a couple of weeks ago.

To help you get some ideas, look at these two guides:

Here's an example: The Ballistic Bouncing Boogie Ball!

Confused? Start by trying these advert exercises.

You can draw it, write it, record a radio advert or do a short video.

If you want us to add it to the 'News and Special Mentions page', send us a copy so we can upload it.

Now for something completely different...

Week 3

Monday 4th May to Friday 8th May 2020.

Hello everyone!

The feedback we had about the Oak Academy work was that some was enjoyable, but other bits were not so useful. We have included some English writing to concentrate on this week in case you don’t like the Oak English work. Keep in touch - and keep the emails coming! 😀

⭐️Junk modelling challenge⭐️

Using items you can find about your home, e.g. things that would go to be recycled, come up with your own monster or dinosaur.
Here’s an example to start you off. You could use it or think of your own! Email us your completed model. Perhaps we will end up with a dino-monster gallery?!

More examples here.

Please let us know what you think? Try them and get back to us on how you get one with them.

After clicking through to the subject have a look at the schedule as the Academy is on the second week of learning. It may be best to start on week 1 so that you can follow the lessons in order smiley

If you get chance have a look at this 'virtual' tour of the Tutankhamun exhibition in London: Treasure of the Golden Pharaoh. It's amazing and reminded us of the work we did before we went off.

Maths

Maths is all about fractions. There are 5 lessons on the White Rose maths site to get you going. Learning about fractions can be done really practically. Cut things up (ask Mum or Dad first!) into equal parts and you have cut it into fractions. Put them back together and you have the whole!

Every White Rose lesson has practise materials with it (including answers!) and is a great place to start.

There are some fraction activities set on Sumdog for you to have a go at this week - if you need logon details email Y3@greenhill.leeds.sch.uk

Have a look at problem solving Friday on the BBC - Some super problems! Have a go!
