🌱 Personal Development at Greenhill Primary School

At Greenhill, helping children grow into confident, kind and resilient young people is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud that OFSTED recognised this in our most recent inspection.

🤝 A Caring, Inclusive and Respectful Community

OFSTED described our school as having a “warm and welcoming ethos,” where pupils
“care about each other” and show “respect for each other, the wider community and the environment"

This reflects our daily commitment to kindness, empathy and positive relationships across the whole school.

💛 Emotional Development & Wellbeing

Children learn best when they feel safe, supported and understood.
OFSTED praised our pastoral care as “strong” and supporting pupils’ emotional development and resilience “right from the early years.”

Through PSHE, ELSA, Zones of Regulation and daily routines, we help pupils:

  • Understand and talk about their feelings

  • Build resilience

  • Develop confidence

  • Learn how to look after their mental health

📚 A Curriculum That Builds Character

Our PSHE curriculum was judged “highly effective” with pupils “remembering it well.”

Personal development also flourishes through our wider curriculum — including our rich Religious Education (RE) provision. During the OFSTED deep dive in RE, inspectors noted how well pupils understand different faiths and “celebrate difference”

Through RE, pupils:

  • Explore and appreciate world religions

  • Learn to value diversity

  • Develop respect, tolerance and curiosity

  • Understand the beliefs and cultures of their peers and their community

These are the foundations of thoughtful, compassionate citizenship.

Our wider character curriculum includes:

  • Sports competitions and clubs

  • 🎭 Performances and creative arts opportunities

  • 🗳️ Leadership roles, including our inclusive School Council

  • 🧑‍🏫 ‘Take over the school’ days, building confidence and responsibility

  • 🌍 Cultural and community events that broaden horizons

🌟 Celebrating Every Child

We believe every child should feel proud of their achievements.
OFSTED highlighted our “rich range of rewards, including ‘person of the week’, to encourage high self-esteem"

We celebrate kindness, effort, creativity and personal growth—ensuring everyone feels valued.

🎓 Preparing for Life Beyond Primary School

Through our curriculum and broad range of enrichment experiences, Greenhill pupils are “well prepared for secondary school and life beyond.”

We want every child to leave us with:

  • Confidence

  • Resilience

  • Strong moral values

  • Respect for diversity

  • A positive sense of identity

  • The skills to thrive in the next stage of their journey

🌟 Personal Development Enhancements at Greenhill

At Greenhill, we believe every child should have a voice, feel empowered, and be given real opportunities to make a difference. Our enrichment and leadership groups are a huge part of building confident, responsible and community-minded young people.

We are Child Friendly Leeds  The Child Friendly Leeds 12 Wishes

The 12 wishes are the voice of children and young people in Leeds. The original Child Friendly Leeds 12 wishes were formed in 2012. Below, you can see how we aim to fulfil these wishes through our personal development offer at Greenhill:

🗣️ Pupil Voice & Leadership

We take a proactive approach to developing pupil voice. Children are encouraged to share their ideas, shape school decisions and work together to make positive changes.

🗳️ School Council

Our School Council leads the way in pupil leadership.

  • They run class meetings, deliver assemblies, and gather pupils’ views.

  • They’ve built strong links with our community — including adopting Bramley Train Station, where pupils proudly showcase their artwork and help brighten the local area.

Their work ensures every child knows their voice matters.

💙 Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors receive training through the Diana Award and play a key role in maintaining our positive, respectful culture.

  • They lead assemblies to share key anti-bullying messages.

  • They champion wellbeing and kindness across school.

Their work helps make Greenhill a place where every child feels safe and valued.

🌍 Eco Warriors

Our Eco Warriors are passionate about protecting the planet.

  • They look for ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • They played an active role in the installation of solar panels on our school roof.

  • They work closely with Solar for Schools to understand sustainability and take meaningful action.

They show how small steps can make a big difference.

🇬🇧 British Values Ambassadors

Our British Values Ambassadors help children understand and celebrate the values that underpin life in modern Britain.

  • They lead assemblies.

  • They promote democracy, mutual respect, individual liberty and the rule of law.

Their leadership helps promote a strong, inclusive school culture.

🎮 Playtime Pals

Playtime Pals are trained by a specialist coach to lead active, engaging playground games.

  • They support children of all ages to join in, be active, and build friendships.

  • They help make playtimes happy, safe and inclusive for everyone.

🚶 WOW Ambassadors

Our WOW Ambassadors champion healthy, sustainable travel.

  • They record how children travel to school each day.

  • They encourage walking, scooting and cycling through our Walk to School initiative.

They help us promote fitness, independence and cleaner air.
