Greenhill Primary School

Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is extra money given to schools by the government to help improve educational outcomes for children who may face additional challenges. This funding is on top of the school’s main budget.

Schools receive Pupil Premium for pupils who:

  • are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM),

  • have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years,

  • are or have been Looked After Children,

  • are children of service families.

The government expects schools to use this funding to help disadvantaged pupils achieve the best possible outcomes. Every school must publish a Pupil Premium Strategy each year explaining how the funding will be spent and how its impact will be measured.

How do we use Pupil Premium funding at Greenhill?

At Greenhill, we want every child to feel safe, supported and able to succeed. We know that some pupils face barriers to learning that they cannot control, and the Pupil Premium helps us to remove or reduce those barriers.

Because every child is different, we tailor support to meet individual needs. Funding may be used to provide:

Targeted Teaching Support

  • Additional qualified staff who work with pupils in class

  • Small-group or one-to-one sessions

  • Same-day support when a child has found a lesson particularly challenging

  • Carefully planned interventions to help pupils keep up or catch up

All teachers know which pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium and monitor their progress closely. If a child is at risk of falling behind, we put support in place quickly.

Support for Individual Needs

Some children may need more specialised help. A portion of the grant can be used for individual resources or support where a child’s needs cannot be met through our usual school provision.

How do we decide how to spend the funding?

Every year, we review our pupils’ needs and write a Pupil Premium Strategy, as required by the Department for Education. This plan explains:

  • what barriers to learning we have identified

  • how we will use the funding

  • what outcomes we expect

  • how we will check progress

You can read this year’s strategy below.

What difference does Pupil Premium make?

We regularly review the progress and wellbeing of children who receive Pupil Premium support. At the end of each academic year, we publish a summary showing the impact of the funding and how well we have met our aims. Last year’s impact review is included in the strategy document.
