Safeguarding
At Greenhill Primary School, keeping children safe is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a secure, caring and supportive environment where every child can learn, grow and thrive.
Our safeguarding practice follows the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025, which defines safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children as:
-
protecting children from maltreatment
-
preventing impairment of children's mental and physical health or development
-
ensuring children grow up with safe, effective care
-
taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

How We Safeguard Children at Greenhill
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff—teaching and non-teaching—play an active role in keeping pupils safe.
At Greenhill, all staff:
-
create a safe and supportive environment where children feel able to speak openly
-
receive regular safeguarding training, including updates throughout the year
-
know the indicators of abuse, neglect and exploitation
-
understand the school’s safeguarding procedures, explained during induction
-
know how to respond if a child makes a disclosure
-
reassure children that they will be taken seriously and supported
-
understand that children may not always feel able to talk about abuse or may not recognise what is happening to them
-
use safe working practices and maintain professional boundaries
We follow the Teachers’ Standards (2012), which state that all teachers, including the Headteacher, must safeguard pupils’ wellbeing and uphold public trust in the profession.
Creating a Culture of Safety
Our safeguarding culture includes:
- Robust recruitment practices
- All staff and volunteers undergo safer recruitment checks in line with KCSIE.
- Clear reporting procedures
- Any staff member with a concern about a pupil must report it immediately to the DSL team.
- Strong pastoral care
- We work closely with families, children’s services and other agencies to support children’s wellbeing.
- Online safety education
- We teach children how to stay safe online, and we monitor and filter school systems to protect pupils.
- Early help
- We recognise difficulties early and work with families to provide support before issues escalate.
