Greenhill Primary School

Year 4

In Year 4 we have two classes both named after magnificent, native trees.

Aspen Class

Know as the quaking aspen, this wonderful tree has delicate foliage that shimmers and flutters in the slightest of breezes. In history, Aspen crowns were supposed to give the wearer powers to enter the underworld.

Aspen class are taught by Mr. Haddock & Mrs Aggarwal. They are supported by Miss Earnshaw.

Yew Tree Class

The longest lived tree in Northern Europe, the Yew Tree is an evergreen tree found in church-yards accross the United Kingdom. In history, the Yew was planted on the graves of Plague victims to purify and protect the dead.

Yew Tree class are taught by Miss Hodgson and supported by Miss Gawthorp.

The HLTA for Year 4 is Miss Johnstone

Year 4: Important Information

Reading & Homework

Reading

It is vitally important that your child reads at home as well as at school.

The expectations are that your child reads every day at home. In Year 4, Reading books can be handed in on any day to be changed, but they MUST be  brought into school every day along with their reading records as staff will also be reading with school staff through the day. If possible, these books need to have been signed by an adult each time your child has read.

Homework

Children will be given a list of spellings to learn and a times table sheet to help them practice every Monday. These do not need to be returned to school. There will be a spelling and times table quiz on Friday.

PE Kit

Please make sure your child has the appropriate PE kit. This includes plain jogging bottoms or shorts, a green t-shirt, plain hoodie or long sleeved top and trainers or pumps. Remember that P.E lessons are done both indoors and outdoors, therefore suitable outdoor trainers will be required.

PE in Year 4 will take place on Monday and Wednesday

In Year 4, the children get the opportunity to learn golf, in partnership, with Leeds Golf Centre. Your childs teacher will send a letter home when this is happening.

Residential

Children in Year 4 get the opportunity to attend a residential, over two nights, at Lineham Farm. Activities, including climbing, mountain biking, nature detectives, are all included to provide an amazing experience.

Water

Please provide your child with a water bottle, so that they may stay hydrated through the day. Please ensure that you send only water in with your child and not juice or carbonated drinks.

Times Table Test

In Year 4, we complete a national times table test during June. Here is a page that fully explains what it will be and look like and contain:

To prepare our children for this, we have been using Times Table Rockstars. This app can be used at home on PCs, laptops, tablets and even smart phones. If you need help logging on or getting set up, please ask one of the Year 4 team.
